Bushfire threatens homes south of perth in Northern Territory’s North
The Northern Territory has declared a wildfire in northern parts of the state as it continues to move west and the threat of bushfires being brought closer to the city of Perth by a strong downpouring.
The fire is one of the region’s worst-ever blazes, and was one of the most dangerous events in recent years.
About 300 firefighters, with assistance from air crews, are now battling the inferno.
The fire is burning a large area and threatening homes in the southern part of the state.
Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles said the situation at the moment wjarvees.comas precarious, and he would wait to decide how long to go into a period of lockdown until he was satisfied the fire would die down.
«If there is any residual fire from somewhere else then we’ve got to wait and see whether or not there are further events,» he said.
«We’ve got a lot of planning going on for next year and our fire pro더킹카지노tection team is prepared to go at all times, and we’ll see how that unfolds at that stage.»
But the damage is immense and thousands of houses could be destroyed.
«All of the structures that were hit by the last fire will be completely destroyed because of these winds. It’s going to be really, really dangerous,» Mr Giles said.
«The only safe way to enter a fire is from a distance or by jumping from the roof of a house. I won’t be jumping from the roof myself, but I’ve got to have some protection because of the strength of the winds that we’re already getting.»
